This year, Down Syndrome Australia is raising awareness of Down syndrome through a social media campaign. As part of the campaign, they are profiling 21 people with Down syndrome on their website and facebook page. The photos and stories have been shared to date on the website: http://www.downsyndrome.org.au/news/wdsd/21_stories.html. There has been a fabulous response particularly on social media.

They also hosted a morning tea in Parliament House, Canberra, to engage with politicians to discuss and celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. The morning tea was held on 22 March. More than 30 politicians attended including senior Ministers and other key policy makers. They welcomed a number of people with Down syndrome and their families to take part in the event including two member ambassadors from South Australia who spoke at the event.

As done in recent years, this year they are taking part in the international promotion of the CoorDown video. This year the focus of the video is raising awareness about the very human needs of people with Down syndrome and raising questions around the use of the term “special needs”.
